What can we offer?
Kate’s Home Nursing provides professional, compassionate, specialist nursing ‘hospice at home’ care, at a time that can often be an emotional and frightening time for patients and families alike.
Our bank of experienced Registered Nurses provide expert nursing care for people in the last stage of illness who wish to die at home. We seek to ensure the best possible pain relief and symptom control. We also provide much-needed respite for the patient’s family or carer.
There is no set pattern of care. Our nursing is arranged according to need from a few hours of respite for a patient’s family to all night nursing, with particular emphasis on effective pain relief and symptom control.
Complementary Therapy
In January 2023, we began Complementary Therapies as part of our service. Complementary Therapies are available to Kate’s carers and patients and includes: Aromatherapy, Massages, Reflexology, Acupuncture and Shiatsu Massage.
These practices have long been established in palliative care and have shown to be clinically effective, helping the physical and mental wellbeing of patients and carers. Complementary Therapy can be incredibly comforting at the end of someone’s life and also gives carers a break from the pressures and stresses of around-the-clock care. Caring for someone can take a physical toll on the body, but also places mental strains on the mind, which is why this scheme is vital to the care Kate’s offers.
Delivered by skilled nurses and therapists, who can offer services in Beautylicious, based in the George Moore Community Centre, or at home, meaning these therapies can even be accessed by those who cannot travel.
“Thank you for the care and compassion that you showed my father. He died peacefully at home, we could not have asked for anything more.”
What area do we cover?
Our service is offered to patients registered with GP surgeries in Stow on the Wold, Moreton in Marsh, Bourton on the Water, Northleach, Winchcombe, Rendcomb and Burford. People are generally referred to us through their GP, District Nurse, Hospital or through direct contact from patients, families or carer’s. Our service is offered to anyone with a palliative diagnosis, who has been told there is no cure for their condition or illness, with no curative treatment available.
I will never forget the kindness and professionalism you gave to both of us, and I literally could not have coped without you all.”
Who pays for this service?
All palliative nursing care we provide, is free of charge and paid for from our funds as a Registered Charity. We receive some support from official sources, but have to raise most of our funds ourselves and so depend on the generosity of the people who support us through donations, legacies or by attending our fundraising events.
How can I refer someone to Kate’s Home Nursing?
Our patients are generally referred by their District Nurse or GP, however we can accept self referrals so if you or a member of your family would like to enquire, please contact our Nursing Co-ordinator on 07800 830 302, or email info@kateshomenursing.org.
