Kate's have the fundraising 10 mile walk or run: Step Out For Sarah planned for 11th September. In the meantime, on 25th June, Paul Johnson, a local GP from Bourton-on-the-Water ran 26.4 miles (42 kms) in Tromso, Norway. Known as the Midnight Sun Marathon, the race starts at 8.30 pm. However, Paul was not running in the dark!
As Tromso is in the arctic circle, it remains in daylight all through the night, hence the marathon's very apt title!
Paul did a fantastic time of 4hrs 9mins crossing the finishing line just after midnight. If you consider that his training had been affected by a previous hip problem, this result is doubly impressive.
His daughter Poppy, following in daddy's trainers, ran her first race - a childrens 1km fancy dress race, and was delighted to win a prize for her Peppa pig outfit - seen right.
Thank you Paul and Poppy! Any donations towards Paul and Poppy's efforts will be gratefully received.
