Henly Half Marathon 2011
We owe a huge thank you to Joshua and Hannah Kubale who completed the Henley Half Marathon on 9th October and who very kindly chose to donate their sponsorship money to Kate's.
Joshua reports:
After a few months hard training in the local pub, Hannah and I lined up bleary-eyed at the start line for the Henley half marathon on the 9th October. It was a dry, bright day and there was a light breeze to keep us cool - all conditions were perfect aside from our fitness level! The first seven miles of the run took us out through Henley and into the Thames Valley before looping back by the river and into Henley again. These first seven miles had lured us into a false sense of security and we were blissfully unprepared for the two mile uphill slog out of Henley to Fawley. By mile 11 it was only a mixture of sibling rivalry, determination and jelly babies that kept us going. The sight of the finish line at Henley Rugby Club was very welcome indeed and I'm pleased to say that Hannah and I crossed the line together clocking a time of 1:55.03. The recovery afterwards was aided by the food of champions - scampi and chips. Despite the aches and pains, the run was really enjoyable. The course was very pictureseque and it was a great way to raise money for such a fantastic charity. I'm truly grateful for everything Kate's Home Nursing did for my grandmother and my family and I was proud to be able to represent them in the Henley half marathon.
