A huge thank you to everyone who supported the Kate's Carol Service which was held in St Edward's Church, Stow-on-the-Wold on 10th December 2011.
It was a beautiful service of traditional carols and readings. Maddie Whitby sang the first verse of Once in Royal David's City and Emily Campbell sang two beautiful carols; Emily, together with Linda Green gathered together a talented group of musicians to form The Kate's Choir who sang some wonderful descants. The highlight of the service was singing Silent Night by candlight which was very moving.
The readers were James Hayman-Joyce, who with his colleagues raised over £5,000 for Kate's last year; Ruth Lees, one of Kate's Nurse Co-ordinators; Joe Henson MBE, the founder of the Cotswold Farm Park; Alastair Down, senior writer for the Racing Post and anchor of Channel 4 racing and three pupils from Stow-on-the-Wold Primary School.
Again, many thanks to everyone who attended the service and to everyone who sent donations: We are still not sure exactly how much was raised that evening, but it was over £10,000 which is a tremendous amount.
There have been several coffee mornings and Christmas sales held recently, resulting in some wonderful donations to Kate's.
Mrs Jane Lloyd held a Cashmere Sale and raised £250.00 for Kate's in the raffle.
The Hon Elizabeth Wills held a Christmas Sale and raised £414.73 for Kates.

The Frog Race raised £1,000 and was an event greatly enjoyed by those who attended the evening.
The Burford Crafters held a Sale in Burford and raised £506.00
Mrs Hilary Finlay Held a coffee morning on 2nd December and her husband took the remaining cakes to sell at work. Nearly £300.00 was raised for Kate's. Hilary has raised over £1,000 for Kate's this year, having also taken part in the Cheltenham Triathlon in September.
Our Trustees, members of the Fundraising Committee and our nurses have really enjoyed having the opportunity to go along to most of these events, to meet everybody and to try to express our appreciation of the efforts people go to on Kate's behalf. We really can't thank you enough for holding and supporting all these different events.

We have delivered over 3150 hours of direct nursing care since April 2010, compared to 1184 between April 2007 - April 2008
Over the last year we have seen the demand for Kate's services rise significantly. We're not too
sure whether this is due to our reputation, changes within the NHS or our expanded area of operation
to within 20 miles of Stow on the Wold. The reasons are probably a combination of all these things
and although our resources have been stretched at times we are extremely proud of the fact that we
have been able to respond to every request made of us. We have never turned away a patient who falls
within our remit and area. This is due, in no small part to the dedication of our Nurse Coordinator
and our Nurses who often drop every-thing to attend a patient if requested to do so.
Kate's is a team and behind the scenes the support of our dedicated Trustees and fund raisers is
essential.
It is clear, however, that the overriding reason for our success is the support of local people.
Kate's would not exist at all without the donations and fund raising help we receive from the local
community and also the help given to us by local organisations.
The only direct employees of Kate's are the Nurse Coordinator and the Administrator. Nurse
Coordinator is our chief clinician responsible not only for the day to day organisation of our
nurses, but also everything involved in ensuring that our patients and their families receive the
care they need. The Nurse Coordinator is in daily contact with district nurses, GPs, patients,
nurses and our administrator. She meets all our patients and often carries out nursing duties
herself. She supports the team of nurses. Our nurses work for Kate's on a bank system whereby we
call on them as and when their services are needed. Most are also employed by the NHS. The
Administrator takes on the day to day general running of the charity, the website and newsletter,
ensuring the Nurse Coordinator, Trustees and fund raisers can all fulfil their roles.
Our Trustees are all volunteers with individual skills. The team consists of legal and financial
experts, GPs and people with diplomatic experience and extensive business skills. They ensure that
the charity operates within the law, that we keep to our remit which is laid out in the Trust Deed,
that our funds are invested and used appropriately and that the charity operates smoothly and
effectively. The trustees are responsible for deciding the future direction for Kate's as the
environment around us changes, and for overseeing our fundraising activities. Our Fund Raisers are a
dedicated, caring and thank-fully growing group of individuals who all bring their own ideas and
skills to Kate's and without whom the charity could not flourish.
We have several regular meetings which ensure that Kate's runs smoothly and that everything is in
place to enable our nurses to provide an excellent and caring service to those who need it.
In addition to regular Trustee, Fund Raising Committee, Nurse Coordinator and Nurses meetings, the
Nurse Coordinator tries to meet quarterly with other charities providing a similar service in our
area.
Our Nurse Coordinator and nurses keep up to date by attending conferences, talks and where possible,
free training courses.
