Kate’s Great Escape Car Rally 2011

Well what a Sunday!

The rain started to fall just as our first rally drivers collected their route information and the wind made its presence felt as part of the outdoor bar under the gazebo was abandoned and rearranged inside Barrington village hall. Then in magnificent splendour they were off at two minute intervals with only a few impatient competitors jumping the queue!

The rally wound its way through villages and lanes first stopping at Bibury Court Hotel for coffee and delicious shortbread biscuits. Everyone was in very good form, enjoying the route with only a few marriages on the rocky side as driver and navigator disputed various points! After Ablington, Winson and Coln St Dennis it was off to Compton Casey House where Joff and Dokie Poole warmly welcomed our weary drivers with a refreshing glass of Pimms and cucumber sandwiches.

After a clue from the garden they set off on the last leg back to Barrington. A complimentary glass of Prosecco and glorious sunshine, albeit still a tad windy, awaited them and the final challenge of Kate's Great Escape, croquette and horse shoe throwing finalising the end of the rally.

The pig was done to perfection, along with apple sauce, stuffing, and salads, our merry supporters piled their platters and entered the glorious Arts and Crafts building, with pianist in situ, where they were duly relieved of their dosh to purchase raffle tickets!

After a jolly good munch, Mike Pender thanked everyone for their continued support and gave a short talk on Kate's. Alistair Bols conducted a successful auction and then the prizes were awarded to the lucky winners with Robert Schotten (Manfred's brother) winning the actual rally.

The auction raised £3925 and the raffle £1455. We will update the website with the final total once we have it..

Huge thanks to the Schottens and Sean & Simon Clarke who conducted a great rally event once again and for generously giving Kate's 5% from their exhibition sales.

Thanks also to everybody who helped with the event and and all those who turned up and supported it. We hope you enjoyed the day.
