To mark the 20th anniversary of Hayman-Joyce, the three Partners based at Moreton-in-Marsh each set themselves the challenge of walking the Cotswold Way from Bath to Chipping Campden, in order to raise money for Kate’s Home Nursing and Campden Area Home Nursing Trust.
Senior Partner James Hayman-Joyce, whose initiative this was, walked all but the last section on his own, while the –somewhat younger - Tom Hayman-Joyce and and John Yarnold set themselves the exceptional challenge of completing the 102 mile walk in only four days. Anyone who has done the whole route will vouch that to do it even in twice that time requires determination and stamina. To walk between 18 and 30 miles a day over four days is an astonishing achievement.
It was a happy and (mainly thanks to Tom’s fluorescent cap and his brother’s socks) colourful troupe of 20 supporters which met at Hayman Joyce’s Broadway office on Sunday 15 May to accompany the dauntless walkers for the final few miles. As well as colleagues from the firm and friends, some younger family members also joined the group and did really well in maintaining (or at times even setting) the pace, first to Broadway Tower, then over Dover Hill and down into Chipping Campden. Anna Wheeler from the Fundraising Committee of Kate’s Home Nursing and her husband Chris were there with Trustee and fellow Fundraising Committee member Robert Barnett to represent the charity and show how much such fundraising efforts are valued.
One definite first for Kate’s Home Nursing fundraising was a flypast by a friend of the sponsored walkers in his light aircraft. It was certainly memorable to stand up at Broadway Tower while the walkers’ achievement was honoured in this way, wing waggles and all.
Despite blisters and some very stiff and sore joints, the three undaunted fundraisers maintained their pace and walked as planned into Chipping Campden by mid-afternoon and adjourned to the Volunteer Inn for well-earned refreshments and a vote of thanks for their achievement.
Online donations through Just Giving already total some £4,000 to be divided between the two charities and James is confident that there is a signficant amount more to come from other pledges made. This is a wonderful help in making it possible to continue to provide the palliative nursing which makes so much difference to terminally-ill patients’ last days.
James, Tom and John, we salute and thank you. Many thanks also to everyone who helped make the Challenge possible and such a successful fundraising event.
James has always hoped to raise double our £5,000 target and we are well on the way having now raised over £7,400! We now call on everyone help us to reach our goal of £10,000.
